Ernst Strüngmann Institute (ESI) of the Max Planck Society

The Ernst Strüngmann Institute (ESI) focuses on fundamental neurobiological research. Its work centers on brain research, particularly the analysis of neural processes that underlie higher cognitive functions. Current research examines perception, memory, navigation, and language.
Among other goals, our research seeks to better understand the causes of neurological and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, autism, and epilepsy. In the long term, insights from this basic research may help inform the development of new therapies for brain disorders.
