Join us on a journey around the world and help us identify animals! We need your support in analysing the data from our camera traps - all from home, of course! At the booth you can discover the project and test how the identification works.
Due to the rapidly advancing human impact on nature (land-use change, deforestation, habitat destruction), as well as climate change, continuous biomonitoring at selected sites is more important than ever. WildLIVE! consists of several such biomonitoring projects carried out at various locations around the world. These projects use non-invasive camera traps to investigate the effects of changing social, economic, and ecological factors on mammalian fauna. The composition, population sizes, and changes in mammalian communities tell us a great deal about the state of the habitat. However, even medium-sized camera trap projects with 20–50 camera traps generate huge amounts of data that are difficult to process and manage. While there are new, time- and resource-saving approaches using artificial intelligence (AI), human assistance is still needed to train the AI. In our WildLIVE! project, the images from the camera traps are analyzed by citizen scientists like you. In this way, you help answer scientific questions (e.g., which species are present in the areas) and also contribute to “training” the artificial intelligence.
