Never too old for the big performance
Where are the actresses over 60? In Hollywood, they have little chance of landing a major role. It's different in Europe: in recent years, the “Autumn Crocuses” have been quite prominent here. We take an entertaining look at the reasons why and how the public perceives them.
Our project
As part of the Europe-wide joint project “AGE-C - Aging and Gender in European Cinema”, film scholars at Goethe University Frankfurt are investigating how gender relations are portrayed in European cinema and how this portrayal affects the audience. The production processes will also be examined: For instance, what role does European and state film funding play? How has the age structure and social affiliation of cinema audiences changed in recent years? Has the audience perhaps even aged with the actresses, while the majority of younger people no longer go to the cinema but prefer to stream at home?
